Biographical sketch / Administrative history

Archie Tolmie (1898-1986) was born in Mariposa township and raised in Victoria county. His wife, Evelyn Murray was also born in the area, and their children included the noted Canadian artist, Ken Tolmie and historian Murray Tolmie. He worked for Canadian Industries Limited, 1940-1964, in Halifax. He retired to Peterborough with a view of writing the history of Fenelon Falls and Woodville areas, and most of his notes and research were gathered at that time.
