Materials relating to the Federation of Women Teachers of Ontario, personal trips taken, photos of family and friends and correspondence with former students. Of special interest are letters from students serving in World War II including several from Barney Danson who later served as the Minister of National Defense.

These papers were donated by Elizabeth Hinton in December 2015. They came to her through her husband, Robert Hinton. His mother, Marjorie, was Etta’s sister.
Biographical Sketch/ Administrative History:
Etta Lane was born to James Lane and Emily Briggs on May 28, 1889. Her siblings were Millie (b.1885), Mark(b. 1891), Marjorie (b. 1892) and Sydney (b. 1894).
Etta Lane taught school at Queen Victoria Public school in Toronto and became the President of the Federation of Women Teachers of Ontario in 1933-35. She is listed as a teacher on the 1911 census.
