Have you stored your most precious documents, photos, letters and family heirlooms in drawers and boxes and basements and attics? Have you discovered that, over the years, your collection has deteriorated? Would you like to know how to prevent this from happening in the future?
This 3 hour workshop will provide you with practical information and basic techniques for the conservation of paper and photos.
During this fun, informative and hands-on workshop you will learn how to:
- identify quality archival materials and learn how to use them in your own collection
- encapsulate a document that you bring from home
- mount a photograph (or postcard) with photo corners that you make
- create a window mat for your photo using a mat cutter
- create a protective folder for your photo or your encapsulated document.
Please bring with you two documents, sized approximately 5″x7″, that you wish to preserve. These can be photos, post cards, newspaper clippings, or other small documents. During this workshop, you will encapsulate one of these items, and the other will be mounted and put into a folder that you will make.
You will also need to bring your own scissors, a utility knife, a ruler, a pencil and an eraser. If you have a self-healing cutting mat, please bring that as well.
