Unveiling Postcards from Peterborough

Trent Valley Archives (TVA) is pleased to invite the community of Peterborough and surrounding area to their Open House on Saturday, Sept 10 th from 1-4 p.m. At that event TVA will launch an extraordinary new book entitled Postcards from Peterborough and the Kawarthas written by Elwood Jones and Matthew Griffis. Although other materials have used postcards images as illustrations of various subjects, this is the first to focus entirely on the history of postcard making & collecting in the Kawarthas and will feature cards from the 1900-1950s.

A rare opportunity for a glimpse into the world before text messages and Instagram photos, this work celebrates our heritage as well as provides a wonderful resource for researching landmarks, special events, groups, institutions and organizations. At the Open House there will be tours of the Archives, a display of the District of Colborne original founding document, several photos of old downtown buildings including the mysterious Haynes Photo Studio and a view of Ashburnham from the Tower of St. John’s Church c. 1874. A number of old maps including Newcastle and Colborne Districts, 1848 and County of Peterborough, 1882 will be available for sale.

Come out and investigate the special collections from across five counties that are housed at the Archives and the amazing genealogical resources that continue to improve. You’ll be able to pick up a copy of the featured book for $30 and have it specially signed.
