Position to run for 16 weeks starting May 8, 2018
Wage $14.00 per hour plus CPP, EI and WSIB
Job Description
- Develop, promote and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization
- Recruit volunteers and participate in volunteer interviews
- Review and update job descriptions for each volunteer assignment
- Ensure that volunteers are assigned to support operations including tours, special events and archival projects
- Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service.
- Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
- Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation.
- Will be supervised by the Archivist and Associate Archivist
The applicant must:
- be a current post-secondary student who will be continuing his or her studies in the coming academic year
- be enrolled in a history, museum studies, cultural studies, tourism, or human relations management program
- have job-related experience such as working in a museum or archives, managing volunteer programs and/or team leadership
- have excellent written and oral communication skills
- be able to follow directions and work independently as well as with staff and volunteers
- be proficient in basic computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets
- have demonstrable record-keeping and planning skills
- be able to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects and responsibilities
- have the ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions
- have own transportation to the workplace which is not on the city bus line
- provide at least 2 references
