Biographical sketch: Ray Gillies was born in Peterborough, Ontario, on February 28, 1916. He married Helen Audrey Ward in Peterborough in 1945, and had a daughter named Barbara with her. He worked at GE, holding different office positions throughout his career there. He began his work in theatre lighting at Knox Presbyterian Church’s Theatre Group and was a founding member of the Peterborough Theatre Guild, where he was Lighting Director and Property Manager for 28 years. He was also in charge of the lighting at the Memorial Centre whenever they had musical concerts, and did lighting for other events in the area. He died on February 15 1992 at age 76, and is buried in Little Lake Cemetery. He was inducted into the Pathway of Fame in 2000.
