Scope and Contents:
Stan McBride was active in the community and these files provide some indication of the diversity of his participation. The Files were arranged in a single series but with additional accruals it has been necessary to add series. The collection fairly represents the wide interests of Sheriff McBride. The papers are arranged by files with the three accessions received in 2007, 2008 and 2010.

Biographical Sketch/ Administrative History
Stanley A. McBride (1920-2005) was one of Peterborough’s most distinguished citizens. After working for Westclox (earlier Western Clock Company), he went into business as a service station operator. He was elected alderman for six years, and served nearly two years, 1961-1962, as mayor of Peterborough. He was Sheriff of Peterborough from 1962 to 1985. During the 1920s and 1930s, Stan McBride was very active on the sports scene, particularly notable for his accomplishments in swimming and golf. During the 1970s and 1980s, Stan McBride was the city’s leading emcee and the diversity of his community involvement is reflected in the programs and ephemera which he saved. Stan McBride was highly regarded for his knowledge of Peterborough’s history, and assisted in most projects from the 1960s to the 1990s.
