Biographical sketch: T. Frank Matthews was born in Lindsay in 1869 to parents George Matthews and Anne Smithson. At the age of 12, he began working for his father’s packinghouse company, which moved from Lindsay to Peterborough in 1888. The company amalgamated with Parker Blackwell Company Ltd in 1911, which then became part of Allied Packers in 1919 and their Canadian operations, Canada Packers, in 1927. Frank served as the secretary of the company and became manager of the company in 1889, a position that he held until June of 1919 when he moved to Toronto to retire.

In addition to his work as a businessman, Frank was very active in the Peterborough community. He was a member of the Peterborough Water Works board from 1902-1919 and the Peterborough Library Board from 1913-1914, and chaired the Peterborough Utilities Commission from 1914-1919. A fan of athletics, he was also a part of the Peterborough Golf Club and the Peterborough Curling Club.

On June 7, 1892, Frank married Martha Stratton, the daughter of James Stratton. They had three sons and one daughter: Harold (who died in 1916 during the First World War); Gordon; Jessie and James. He passed away in 1947.
