Scope and Contents: The fonds consists of magazines published monthly containing horticultural content, articles and photos, mostly Canadian. Only Canadian Horticultural magazine published at the time. Of interest; story on growing celery on farm on outskirts of Peterborough, columnist R.S. Rose of Peterborough , picture and blurb on maintenance at Little Lake Cemetery and lack of maintenance at some other cemeteries around the country. Photocopies of selected items are included in file 0.

Custodial History: The magazines were donated by Suzanne Bailey through Stephanie Forester on September 23, 2015.

Administrative History: The 1909 issue claims that it is AThe Only Horticultural Publication in Canada” and cost 60 cents a year or $1.00 for 2 years. Monthly contents include articles on growing fruit, pruning tips and cultivation of such fruits as raspberries, apples and peaches. Other topics are about flower gardens, lawns, vegetables and market gardening. Also included in each issue are editorials, questions and answers, courses to take, seasonal planting advice and other interesting notes from the provinces. Each month contained a list of advertisements, a lot of which are timely to the present day. The magazines all have limited colour on the covers and have no coloured pictures inside.

The average number of monthly issues printed ranged from 6,627 in 1907, 8,695 in 1908, 8,970 in 1909, 9,067 in 1910, 9,541 in 1911, 11,327 in 1912, 12,524 in 1913, and 12,405 in Jan 1919. Circulation nearly doubled between years 1907 and 1919.
