3 | Tolmie, Archie | Dates: 1904-1988 Local history of Mariposa and nearby townships of Victoria County, from the beginnings to the 1980s. Scrapbooks and notebooks related to Archie Tolmie’s research in local schools, town halls and family collections. Interested in Murchison, MacKay, Tolmie, Graham, McMillan, Junkin, Moynes and other families, and in the history of Fenelon Falls, Woodville, Lindsay, Ops, Mariposa, Verulam, Somerville, Eldon, Glenarm, Bexley, Colborne District, and of individuals from the area such as Leslie Frost, and Sam Hughes. Notable is the school register for Mariposa Township, 1904, 1908, 1912, 1919, 1925, 1928. Tolmie also transcribed local records that are not readily available elsewhere: Assessment roll, Eldon, 1877, Mariposa, 1851-53. Also personal and family papers, 1904 to the 1980s which include papers related to his positions with Canadian Industries Limited, Halifax, Nova Scotia, 1940-64, and in Peterborough after 1964. |
4 | Hope, Albert | Dates: 1887 – 1888, c. 1914 The fonds consists of architectural plans and drawings, c. 1914, for a few houses designed and built by the Peterborough builder Albert Hope, together with several coloured plates and details that appeared in the Scientific American, Architects and Builders Edition, 1887-88, which were used for developing his plans. Clients included James McMilnan, K.S. Scherlies, G. Ruth, Frank MacDonald, Peterborough Hardware Store, Dr Hewitt Amys, and L. Yeotes. The papers have extra interest as the Scientific Americans were clearly passed on from another builder who had valued these materials. They provide insight into the ways in which the most ubiquitous style of local Victorian architecture was introduced and refined. |

The postcards have some collector interest, but are more fascinating for having been received primarily by one person over a long period of time. The materials related to the school career and education of Olga Sanderson are most interesting. The programs for theatre and sports events have continuing interest both for an archives and for collectors. |

26 | Osborne Photographic Collection | Dates: 1971-1989 The Osborne Photographic Collection includes thousands of positives and negatives (small, medium, and large format). These were created between 1971 and 1989 at the Osborne Photography studio as well as at other locations within the greater Peterborough area. The majority are colour although a substantial minority are black and white. The colour negatives are 35 mm, the black and white are 4″ by 5″. The prints are mostly 4″ x 5″ with some smaller and some larger. When the collection was accessioned in 2001-02, it was estimated that it contained approximately 30,000 negatives and 15,000 positives. The preservation project of 2013 is in the process of determining more exact numbers. |

35 | Anson House | Dates: 1862-1996 Research materials related to the Peterboro Relief Society, Anson House, and Anson House Committee. The papers permit the historical analysis of local attitudes and approaches to social welfare, poverty and relief for the aged poor, for a period of over 130 years. The papers, almost entirely bound volumes with some loose papers interleaved, consist of four kinds of records. First there are the minutes (files 1-26), comprising about one-half the fonds, which record the actions of the Anson House Committee, and its predecessors, from 1862-1994. There are significant gaps in this major series. That for 1869 seems to reflect poor minute keeping techniques. The two other gaps 1877-1880 and for the 1950’s, reflect missing books that might yet be found. There are also records, not nearly so complete, that relate to the visitors, and to the employees. (Mainly files, 17, 31 and 32). Thirdly, there are records relating to clientele (files 34-44). There are also miscellaneous printed items of which the most significant are the annual reports for the provincial department responsible for Houses of Refuge, 1886-1888. |
